This is exactly the kind of 94 year old I want to be.
Ignore the fact it is a car commercial. I clearly don’t get paid sponsorship money. It is the fact that this lady, quite simply, kicks ass:
I am just so sick of seeing plastic 20 year old models telling me what is en vogue, the right thing to say, eat, do or put on my face.
Who are you “duck-face” pouting to down the lense you Gigi, Bella and Kendall wannabes? If it is for the guy that likes it, I would wager 10 Great British Pounds that when the pout deflates and the backside inflates, he will be on to the next bright young thing. For like a flower, your beauty is merely fleeting. Your style, charisma and intellect on the other hand will continue to grow. So cultivate it, and ditch the loser.
I don’t mean to generalise. I am fortunate enough to have some very strong, sassy and intelligent young women in my life – yes, you Amy, Hattie, Lauren, Alex, Phoebe, Jane, Lydia, Mia, Sam (https://dictionarydutch.wordpress.com) and Celleste. Your zest, power and intellect “wow” me quite regularly. But I need to generalise here. You are exceptions. So bear with me….
This, right now – 2016 – is surely prime time for women who have lived?
Women who have stories to tell.
Who have fought for a right to be heard over the years.
Come out the other side balanced and more articulate.
Women who have principles.
Who forgive and don’t bear a grudge.
Women who respect their bodies – eat well, keep in shape. Take pride in their appearance and intellect.
Have honed their professions / raisin d’etre.
Women who have lived. Who support other women.
Laughed until they have cried, countless times.
Just like there has / will be an inevitable backlash against brain dead reality tv, there must surely be a backlash against the dull; self obsessed young clones that society is churning out?
Are we experiencing it right now?
I am not a bitter old lady who is anti-youth.
On the contrary, I appreciate your charms and wide eyed innocence. You remind me of me. You keep me young. I look at your fashion and adapt it (just make it more age appropriate). I love your music. The stories I overhear in the street are versions of my stories.
But I want you to respect me.
And my mother.
And my grandmother.
Woman to woman.
Because we are all beautiful.
And by the time I reach 94 years old, I will surely have 94% of it sussed?
Nothing but a number… I’m having more fun now than ever before. Here’s to being true to yourself whatever the age.

Thanks for the huge compliment!
I once met two 80-plus-women who had a weekly agreement to go shopping together and end their afternoon in a cafe behind some cappuccinos. I remember thinking: if I can grow old like this, sign me up right now! I have decided to become a crazy person and enjoy life over worrying about what’s cool. I hope I can keep this up until I’m 100 (I plan to die old, haha).

I love this sentiment. And agree that we should just push forward and enjoy the cappuccinos along the way 😃.

Wonderful!
We all have stories to tell, regardless of our age, our shape or our size. In fact, the older we get, the more interesting we should be. 🙂 Life is good… some people just don’t know how to live it.
Here’s to more amazing and exciting years ahead! – B

Reblogged this on Belle Papillon 24/7 and commented:
The first time I saw this woman was through a photo quote (top) that I saw on FB that I wanted to share with a friend. My first thought was “This woman is quirky, I wanna be just like her when I get to that age.” lol I had no idea who she was then until I found this blog post. The more I found out about her, the more interesting she became. She is an inspiration and she’s quite empowering to women. She oozes with confidence and she’s still got a lot of spunk at 94.
Anyway, I was going to write a blog about her initially but then I decided that since I found her through Lexa, it’s just right that I reblog so that people may find their way to Lexa’s blog. Givers gain 🙂
Carpe diem!
